smilingrid: hazelnut hot cocoa

hazelnut hot cocoa

I do believe I've mentioned that my desire for hot cocoa increases exponentially when there's rain in the forecast, but I don't think I've said how I like my hot cocoa to be the most chocolate-y of concoctions. Molly and Kitty laughed at me and watched with trepidation when I made hot chocolate for our sleepover and kept. adding. cocoa.

What can I say? I'm a chocoholic, guilty as charged.

With these past few rainy nights, I decided to create my ultimate hot chocolate and went searching for a recipe to suit my needs. I found this one, which sounds delicious... and also a little crazy! It seems to blur the lines between drink and dessert so I took it more as inspiration than anything else, scribbling all over the pad where I wrote the (downsized) list of ingredients.

Ingrid's Hazelnut Hot Cocoa
1/4 of a cup of half & half
3/4 of a cup of milk
as much chocolate chips as you dare
(I used about 1/4 of a cup of "Dark Chocolate Morsels" but I'm pretty sure they're the same thing as chips. So.)
1 honkin' tablespoon of Nutella

(I forgot vanilla this time around, but I'm sure it would taste delicious!)

1. As always, assemble the ingredients!

2. Measure out your half & half and milk and set to warming it over low heat.

3. Add in your chocolate chips.

4. Remember how I said the tablespoon of Nutella was honkin'? Load that bad boy up!

5. Stir the Nutella in until it all melts off of the spoon.

(Here, I switched to a wooden spoon so it wouldn't keep heating up in my hand.)

6. Keep stirring until everything is all melted together and hot enough to deserve to be called "hot cocoa!"

7. Pour into the largest mug you can find and enjoy!
(I recommend doing so while watching old Batman movies with your dad. That's always fun!)

"gouter" is a French word translated to mean "snack time" by my high school. They sent out these mugs in a care package to my entire class for our first bout with finals!

(sneaky peek of the new hair cut! Yay, selfies!)
